Kiki Smith - Lilith, 1994 - Bronze, silicon, and glass.

“In medieval Jewish lore, Lilith was Adam’s first wife.  When she demanded to be Adam’s equal, she was evicted from the Garden of Eden.  Lilith flew away to the demon world, replaced by the more submissive Eve.  Smith catches us off guard with Lilith’s pose and placement.  Most sculptures receive our gaze passively, but Lilith stares back with piercing brown eyes, ready to pounce.”

hella dope

This is Guillermo Del Toro’s new movie coming out called The Book of Life.

Here’s a link to the trailer

pssst

pssst, guys, this movie is only produced by Guillermo del Toro

which, I’ll grant you means he probably had a strong hand in the creative process (ffs look at the goblins in The Hobbit)

but the director is actually Jorge Guitierrez!!

I know Guillermo del Toro is a household name now and that’s EXCITING don’t get me wrong, but he’s taking his name and his money to help other latinos (and specifically, in Guiterrez’s case, chicanos) get a foot in the door!

And that’s really important to remember and support with this movie.

This!! I was hoping someone would point that out. Directors need credit, too!
